Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is this?
A: In 2024 I wrote a blog post titled Fediverse for Freedom. In it, I discussed the importance of a free and open Fediverse, and how and why public institutions can support it. I also had the idea that this is like the Rebel Alliance (look, I grew up on Star Wars, OK?). I combined these concepts into a sticker that I made to casually share at FOSDEM in February 2025. Some people liked these stickers, so I made a quick page to let you have me send you some. Oh, and I use the hashtag #FediverseForFreedom a lot in my talks.
Q: What are the stickers like?
A: They are individual, die-cut, with a high-quality holographic satin matte finish. The small stickers are 7.5 x 4.5 cm, and the large one is 10.5 x 6.5 cm.
Q: What is the license?
A: The design uses the "Fediverse logo" by Eukombos, which was shared under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. I incorporated that into a design of my own, which I am sharing in the form of the physical sticker itself. You're free to put that wherever you wish. I don't currently plan to share the design in digital format.
Q: Who are you?
A: My name is Andy Piper and I'm a big fan of the Fediverse. I work on the Mastodon team, but I also believe in the Fediverse as a whole, and I contribute across various projects. I'm a speaker, writer, and consultant who specialises in social web advocacy.
Q: Are you making money here?
A: To be honest, I'm not making very much money from this. After printing and shipping etc, there's a
very small margin, and it will largely depend on the location where they are being sent. You may, if you
wish, choose to pay more than the minimum amount to support me personally (please note that I work for a
small
non-profit
organisation, Mastodon, and that this is a very small side project).
tl;dr I'm
not in
this to make a load of
money. The goal is to raise awareness and support for the Fediverse.
